Student Effort

When addressing the issue of failing schools, student effort is often overlooked.  Student effort contributes considerably to learning and  without it, academic achievement is beyond the bounds of possibility. It is our mission to help students build a strong educational effort and decrease the dropout rate.  We want our kids, despite their circumstances, to come to school ready to learn.  We want our kids to be "undroppable."

School Effort

Class size, quality of teachers, access to resources, school climate, standardized tests and school enrollment are some of the factors that are examined when attempting to identify a failing school.  But what about truancy, profanity, social aggression, blatant disrespect, sexual explicitness, and violence?  These are a few of the behaviors plaguing many classrooms.  Is it fair to evaluate teachers under these conditions?  When you seriously examine instruction that works, it requires not only intentional activities from the teacher, but  it also requires specific behaviors of the learner.  What would happen if parents increased their efforts to send their children to school ready to learn?  Wouldn't it be easier to identify teachers that are unqualified and schools that are truly failing.  How can we unite our efforts to create a better learning environment so that qualified teachers can do the job they were trained to do.

Parent Effort

A lack of parental involvement is the biggest problem facing public schools.  Decades of research shows that when parents make a sincere effort to be involved students have higher graduation rates, better attendance and grades, lower rates of suspension, and fewer instances of violent behavior.  A major goal of the United Effort Campaign is to emphasize the "Essential 7" to parents and help them to understand its correlation to the academic success or failure of their child.  In addition, we will teach them how to utilize their school's SIS to consistently monitor their child's effort in the classroom.

Community Effort

Faith Based Institutions

We need faithful clergymen to increase their efforts to equip parents with the necessary tools to guide their children toward academic success.

Local Businesses

We need local businesses to join our campaign through committed representation in the community PTA.

Community Organizations

We need community organizations to participate in an infrastructure that will allow respectful, regular and productive dialogue that will lead to action.
